  • Field of application
    Vertical Pro is a vertically operating inline oven with modular built. The customers’ products are being transferred one-by-one or in batches onto the oven-internal work piece carriers, the so-called Lükon Trays. The trays with the products are moved upward in the first stack and pass through several heating zones at a fixed cycle time. Then they are transferred to the downward stack, where they typically pass through further heating zones and a cooling section.

    The maximum process temperature (for standard equipment) is 200 °C at a tolerance of ± 5 °K.

    A medium sized Vertical Pro (V-Pro) is equipped with 8 zones (heating or cooling) with independent temperature control and monitoring. Depending on through put , thermal processes may last from 20 minutes up to several hours.


    The range of application for a Vertical Pro inline oven covers (among others):

    Up to 16 process chambers (8 in each stack) can be mounted vertically in order to find the proper ratio between thermal profile and throughput. Also dual or multi-step profiles can be realized depending on the thermal requirements of your products and processes.

    Vertical Pro: The heat you need …
    The individual heating zones are independently built chambers. The heat transfer is effected by an optimized laminar air flow. A centrally mounted radial fan realized the blowing against the heating elements which are mounted at both sides by means of a diffusor. Then, the air stream is guided symmetrically into the process chamber from where it is removed in the center.

    By means of individually controlled heating elements, an optimum temperature control is realized. The heating of the zones is realized by heating elements made by Lükon. With heating capacities ranging from 4.0 to 9.0 kW per chamber, there is sufficient reserve for fast reaction to variations in temperature (e.g. caused by supply of high-mass customer products). The air flow is directed horizontally and symmetrically, with control sensors in the air stream and two thermal sensors per chamber.

    The heating chambers are arranged in a way that allows the best possible thermal separation between the individual heating zones. The interference between each two zones is reduced to a minimum. The temperature distribution in each chamber is very uniform. Typical values show a delta-T of approx. ± 1.5 °K in cross and length profile at static load.

    The maximum set point temperature is 200 °C (for standard equipment). Average gradients for heating and cooling are calculated with approx. 5° K/min, however they depend very much on mass and thermal characteristics of the customers’ products. The temperature tolerance in operation of the Vertical Pro is ± 5 °K at 180 °C.

    The number of cooling chambers can be fixed according to the specifications of the application. The typical product temperature at the oven outlet should be less than 51 °C (according to EN ISO 13732), in order to allow direct manual or automatic further treatment.

    Vertical Pro: variable loading capacity for flexible production processes

    The products which are to be thermally treated are handed over from the production line at SMEMA height (966 mm +/- 20) and transported through the Vertical pro on the Lükon oven trays. These trays can be loaded directly with the products or with the customers’ work piece carriers (heat resistant supports/boats/carriers etc.).

    The Lükon oven trays will be adapted to the customers’ products respectively to the work piece carriers (WPC). The total height of the product (incl. WPC – if applicable) determines the index (height) in between each two trays. When – for example – a customer uses the same size of WPC for various products, then the tray index will be adapted to the highest product (incl. WPC). Thus, many different products on WPC can be treated without change of oven set-up.

    The loading capacity (number of oven trays) of a Lükon Vertical Pro depends on the index (distance from surface of one oven tray to the surface of the next oven tray). A basic calculation for a V-Pro with 8 zones (total of heating and cooling) shows the following figures:

    The transport of the parts through the oven is realized without jolt. The minimum cycle time for the oven trays is 25 sec. A capacity calculation has to consider various factors such as number of products (or WPC) that can be placed on each oven tray, tray index (depending on maximum height of product incl. WPC), method of loading/unloading (manually, pushing or by robot), process parameters (time for heat-up, hold and cool-down) and number of zones of the oven.
    Thus, each system can be individually adapted to a customer’s special requirements.

    Vertical Pro: Control, monitoring, and recording of thermal processes 
    The control of the unit is realized by a Siemens Panel-PC of the modern generation, with Touch Screen and Soft-SPS (PLC). The visualization of the oven control is based on Windows XP embedded. Diagrams offer a clearly arranged overview of the temperature in each zone, of the process and of the functions. The touch screen is used for all inputs.

    A great variety of thermal profiles can be realized, also such with several ramps and hold periods (limited by number of oven zones!). The main focus is put on the precision and the stability of the temperatures. This is the basis for the Vertical Pro’s characteristics to realize identical temperature profiles independent from the loading condition of the oven.

    The graphic user interface is menu-driven and available in German and English language. On request (and at a surcharge), other languages can be added in the software.
